Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu concert
The Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu is the oldest orchestra in Spain. Over the course of its more-than-170 years of history, the orchestra has been conducted by some of the greatest maestros in Spanish musical history. It has also been the protagonist of Iberian premières of the great universal operatic repertoire - ranging from the Baroque period to the modern day - sharing the stage with some of the best soloist performers. The orchestra’s first performance - a symphonic concert presenting the first act of Donizett’s Anna Bolena, conducted by Marià Obiols - took place in 1947. Since then, the orchestra has continued to perform throughout all stages of the theatre's history. Since the venue's reconstruction in 1999, its chief conductors have been Bertrand de Billy (1999-2004), Sebastian Weigle (2004-2008), Michael Boder (2008-2012) and, since September 2012, Josep Pons.
